Big Girl Panties

A recent trend among home sewers is making panties — they’re super quick, don’t really require a pattern, and make good use of fabric scraps and old t-shirts.

Kwik Sew 3301

So when Kwik Sew had a $3.99 sale late last month, I took the opportunity to buy a whole bunch of lingerie patterns, including pattern 3301, for some cozy but functional boy short panties.

The pattern goes up to a fairly large hip size, but I’m still larger than that. So I traced the top of my own personal leggings pattern, removed some of the height at the waistline, then applied the leg length and waist curve of KS3301 to my traced pattern. I did add an extra inch of length in the legs, and made an S-curve waistline instead of the standard concave shape.

I’m happy to say that my muslin is about 90% there! I need to raise the waist line at center front and back, and narrow the width of the front waist, but those are minor changes. The legs fit perfectly and the (negative?) ease is just enough. I’ll make another muslin in a few days; hopefully that one will be perfect. Then I can whip up panties to my heart’s delight! I’ve seen some really cute ideas floating around the blogosphere that I really need to pin to my Pinterest board, for reference.
