I am a spoiled, spoiled sewer — I live within walking distance of two discount fabric stores. What does that mean? It means lovely silk remnants for $6, ITY remnants for $2, half off ‘big 4’ patterns, and 100% wool on the bolt for $8 or so a yard. Spoiled.
In addition to these two stores, I’ve got a third store within walking distance — not discount, but the only place I can see Liberty of London fabrics in person. A hop, skip, and a jump on the train and I’ve got a reliable source for buttons and on-trend fashion fabric, among other goodies; slightly more time on the bus and there’s a good-sized shop full of designer quilting cottons and lovely home goods fabrics. And after all that, I can hop on Megabus and be deposited four hours later in New York City’s Garment District.
Yesterday, I went to one of those discount fabric stores and maaaaybe went just a little bit nuts. In my defense, I needed to stock up on notions. And I found a huge cut of remnant silk. And I found fabrics that will make the cardigan my wardrobe has desperately needed for the last several months. And then I found this awesome white stuff …. you get the idea.
What can I say, I live for Saturday afternoon fabric shopping! (Even if it is dreary and raining out.)
