It’s Me Made May Time!

My original pledge was to wear one me-made garment a day, but I’m changing it up. Here’s my new and improved pledge for 2015:

“I, Ebi of makingtheflame.wordpress.com, pledge to wear at least one me-made garment or accessory to work every day this month. I also pledge to make one item per week that is work appropriate and fun (colorful, bright, etc).”

I’m targeting my work wardrobe because I dress the way I feel, and my workplace is very appearance-based (sales). I don’t face the public; all of my “selling” is via phone and email, but I dress crummy here and it sticks out. I’m hopeful that wearing my spirited, colorful, homemade garments and accessories will create a more positive feeling in me about this place, or at least a more positive feeling that makes it easier to bear where I spend most of my life right now.

The second part of my pledge, the sewing part, is a reflection of my makes lately being very casual pieces that don’t really translate well to the workplace, though I wear them here despite that. To get myself to stop doing that, I figure some new work appropriate pieces are the trick!

I’ll be taking selfies and posting them to Instagram every workday, so please find me there: @makingtheflame. I’m also making a Me Made May 2015 page here on the blog, where I get a little more in depth about my sartorial choices.

  1. This is a great pledge! I think creating a comfortable and appropriate work wardrobe is so important since, as you said, you spend so many of your waking hours there. I’ll be following along to see how it goes for you. :)

    1. Thank you! Interestingly, many of your blog posts have a lot of great tips in dressing for the workplace that I’ll be keeping in mind…our settings are different, but the end goal is the same.
