Possession Obsession

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I recently scored big time while shopping for accessories. I’d gone in looking only for a pair of earrings to go with my make-in-progress

black and puffy gold
McCall’s M6751 top, look D

… and some TNT leggings I intend to make over the next few days. But what woman can resist a 75% off everything sale???

If you’re eagle-eyed, you’ve noticed I wear the same accessories over and over again. Some of my heavy rotation pieces are three and four years old! But it’s all cheapo stuff, not really designed to last that long, and frankly, not really on trend anymore. I was overdue for an infusion, so the fact I totally splurged does not count.

Perfect charm necklace for sewers! That’s a spool of thread w/needle, ruler, and scissors.
Lovely new earrings and bracelet.

Recently, Diary of a Sewing Fanatic linked to a really handy post by Allspice Abounds about taking better photos for your sewing blog, which was very helpful. I am terrible about taking proper sewing photos because my preference is to take outfit photos. More important to me than the details of a make are how it exists in real life. What do you wear it with? How do you accessorize it? Where do you wear it? (Though, I realize I need to start sharing proper sewing photos — I’ll get on it, I swear!) Because of this focus, accessories are incredibly important to sharing my me-mades. And new accessories … well, they push me to make garments that work with them!

We’ll see what I come up with moving forward. In the meantime please enjoy the song by Hall & Oates which inspired today’s title:
