Saturday Musings: A Very Dirty Thirty(-Four)

In exactly one month …

… I enter my mid-thirties!!!! AHHHHHH!!!! How did this happen???? Who gave permission for me to get this old? It seems like just yesterday I was an awkward 13 year old fantasizing about being a cool, novel-writing wife and mother in her 30s.

Well, I am indeed a (blog) writer and I’ve clearly managed to make it to my 30s, so…two out of four ain’t bad. What about the rest of it?

Afaict, the rest of it ain’t happening. But my life is still happening! I’ve got my health, my part-time job should go full time soon, and I’m an active volunteer in my community. Still haven’t found an apartment, though. Between stressing about where I’m going to live, realizing it could be nowhere for a few months, and feeling like a complete child for not being more on top of this, you can imagine why I’ve developed major insomnia in the past few weeks.

But that’s life, that’s being in your 30s — riding the wave of joys and disappointments with as much grace as possible.

My favorite technique for surfing life is looking forward to the future, so for 34 I’m thinking about how to weave my life and my sewing more closely together, and in turn weave them in with my growing engagement with sewers across social media. I’ve really enjoyed how the likes and comments have turned into friendships and connections, not the least because I feel it justifies the amount of time I spend sewcializing. :-p

To that end, I’ve created a Pinterest board called A Very Dirty Thirty(-Four) to make sewing friends on a new platform! My style — heck, my whole life — needs an update and I’m dying for fresh ideas. You are invited to pin cool fabrics, must-sew patterns, and stylish fashion ideas to the board. If I make your idea, I’ll blog about it and give you allll the bragging rights (the best thing ever imo, hah). Here are some guidelines to help you:

  • I want some pretty and sexy things: LBDs, lingerie, you name it.
  • I dream of rocking a really sharp professional wardrobe.
  • I don’t have a car and live (at least for now) in New England, so coat ideas are welcome!
  • I wear boring, comfortable shoes. I would like to wear sassy and stylish comfortable shoes.
  • I don’t wear earth colors — green, brown, yellow — and I’m not huge on plaid/tartan.
  • Good denim: shirts and jackets.  Not so good denim: jeans and dresses.

To join the board, please leave your name, email address, and blog address (so I can follow your blog!) in the comments below. If you want to send your info privately, please email me via the contact form on the About Me page.

Let’s get pinning!

  1. I’m with you about the shoes, but don’t really thing sassy/stylish and comfortable are in the same sentence when it comes to them – cause I’m in the same boat. So I’ll be interested in what others think about that too. I’m going to pin a coat that a I made and like to your board.

    1. Faye, isn’t it so annoying we can’t easily find comfy shoes that actually look good? Le sigh. If only we could make those, too…I’ll add your email address to Pinterest, and get that coat up there. Thank you for joining the board :)

  2. 34 is a great age, Ebi. I will re-live it vicariously….until then, I’m down for sharing my sewing ideas on your Pinterest board. (Joined!) The color and print constraints are helpful. How fun that you are letting us “inspiration shop” for you.
